Right time for tough NDCC talks:Nelson mayor

The mayor of Nelson does not think she held the Regional district to ransom regarding the community complex.

Before approving the near $5 million renovation budget Nelson asked that the special $184,000 annual payment they’ve been making to the recreation complex be waived.

After a heated debate they got their way.

Deb Kozak says the conversation about finding a more equitable shared taxation agreement with all regional areas is not new – and she thinks it was the right time to get a deal done.

The RDCK needs to come up with a public outreach study to see who’s using the NDCC so a new shared funding deal can be worked out.
