Woman faces animal cruelty charges

A woman has been charged under animal cruelty laws after she was seen dumping a cat in the wild.

Here’s Castlegar RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew.

Mathew says that’s against the law as it willfully permits unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to the animal.

She says they see or hear about abandoned animals, especially cats, far too often.

She says the public has to realise they are obliged under the law to provide adequate food, shelter and care to animals.

The 56 year old Castlegar woman faces a January court date.
