Krista Kalmikoff found guilty in Nelson armed robberies

Krista Kalmikoff has been found guilty of being an accomplice in the armed robberies committed by her former partner Andrew Stevenson.

After two days of deliberation the jury delivered their verdict Saturday night in Nelson Supreme Court.

They found her guilty on five of the six counts she faced including the robberies of the Kootenay Currency Exchange and the Nelson District Credit Union on April 11th and April 25th 2014.

She has also been convicted of fleeing from police after the NDCU robbery, possession of the stolen cash, and also possession of stolen pharmaceuticals taken in the break and enters at two Castlegar pharmacies in March 2014.

Prosecutor Sunday Patola spoke soon after the verdict.

Stevenson is already serving a ten year jail term.

Kalmikoff was found not guilty of a sixth charge – knowingly being in possession of the shotgun Stevenson used in the two armed robberies.

During the trial the court heard how Kalmikoff waited in a vehicle as the get-away driver while Stevenson – who was addicted to morphine – committed the robberies. He used a bicycle to get from the crime scene to the vehicle.

Kalmikoff will be back in court in January to fix a date for sentencing
