The City of Nelson has come a long way in getting on top of its ageing infrastructure.
Chief Financial Officer Colin McClure says annual water rate increases are now around the 3% mark.
That’s a far better financial outlook than when the master plan was put together almost ten years ago.
McClure says excellent work in-house by city crews has helped replace very old galvanized pipe which in turn has cut water leakage in a big way.
McClure says projects such as a secondary and emergency water source may keep water rate increases around 3% but sewer pipe re-lining has helped bring those rate increases in line with inflation.
