The City Of Nelson is back on an even keel following past years of large annual hikes to rates.
They’re now back to typical cost-of-living sized increases of 2 to 3% following almost a decade of big hikes.
City Manager Kevin Cormack says the city has been able to do extensive replacement or repair of ageing underground infrastructure cheaper than expected.
That means many more years of large planned hikes are no longer necessary.
He says the 2016 water and sewer rate increases will total about $25 per home.
Council signed off on the rates this week.
