The war on drugs isn’t working and it’s time to try something else.
That’s the word from outgoing Nelson Police Chief Wayne Holland.
He’s speaking to the news that former Toronto Police Chief -and now liberal MP Bill Blair – will head the Trudeau government task force on the legalization of marijuana.
Holland says changing the laws may yet bring unforeseen ramifications but the public needs to see that all stakeholders – including police – have been fully and properly engaged.
Holland says he likes the idea of liquor stores becoming marijuana retail outlets -at least initially – because of their proven track record, oversight from government and the trust of the public.
Blair says liquor stores may lead the way on retailing marijuana.
