Rossland seeks food plan

Rossland hopes to take it’s local food production to a higher level.

The city will match funding if the Alpine City wins a grant from Interior Health for a food security action plan.

Rossland may not be regarded as a hot-bed of agriculture, but councillor and local food advocate Andrew Zwicker says a hundred years ago it could almost feed itself.

Winter squash, potatoes, garlic, tomatoes and salad greens are popular crops.

Rossland is on IH’s short-list to get the food security grant.

Zwicker says it would cover three years of planning and development of more agricultural activity.
