Nelson’s outgoing Chief of police has been reacting to the resignation of one of his officers who was recently convicted of assault.
Drew Turner tendered his resignation last week, a few months after completing 30 days of house arrest.
In 2014 he assaulted a woman during her arrest.
Chief Wayne Holland couldn’t comment on whether Turner’s long-term position at the NPD had become untenable, saying that would have been up to an external enquiry to decide, but…
Holland says police officers know they are held to a high standard of conduct and when mistakes are made the consequences are often immediate and harsh.
