Nelson City Council is saying “no” to grant increase requests from various taxpayer-funded groups.
They include the likes of the Capitol Theatre, museum and Arts Council.
Mayor Deb Kozak says the city is trying to stick to targets and there is also the potential for a big hike in police spending.
It’s not clear how the city would allocate funds should the province determine more police officers are needed.
As for the grant recipients, the Nelson Regional Sports Council had asked for the biggest increase to help off-set costs for the ice rink.
Kozak says while the city won’t give increases they will work with all groups to help them boost revenues.
