Nelson Civic set for re-birth as powerful community asset

Making Nelson’s Civic Theatre movie house into a cultural media centre is just the starting point for how the city-owned building could be transformed into a powerful community asset.

This from councillor Donna Macdonald after hearing the society’s vision to make the three-plex an educational, cultural and economic driver by harnessing fiber optic technology.

The society is seeking a coalition of partners that could include Selkirk College, schools, non-profits and local business to ensure the facility is fully utilized during week days when movies aren’t shown.

This would also help attract grants and donations for the $2 million still needed for the three-screen project.
