A very big economic boost for a regional company and one of our smaller communities.
Nakusp ship-builder Waterbridge Steel has been awarded the contract to design and manufacture four new cable ferries for BC’s inland fleet.
It’s a $28 million job.
Mayor Karen Hamling says 30 jobs with four years of work is great news.
The new cable ferries will continue to serve Glade and Harrop on Kootenay River, Arrow Park on Arrow Lake, and Adams Lake.
The three new ships in our local region will be bigger than the existing ones – some of which are about 70 years old.
The first new vessel is expected to be launched early next year.
