The new Gas Tax deal announced last week between the feds and BC bodes well for local municipalities.
So says Nelson City Manager Kevin Cormack.
For example the Queen City will not only get a little more money in each of the next ten years but the funding options have widened.
Cormack says in the past the Gax Tax funding was earmarked only for so-called “have to have” core water, sewer and roads infrastructure.
But he says now the money can go towards “nice to have” stuff like recreation and even tourism and cultural facilities.
Nelson’s annual Gas Tax amount will go from about $420,000 to $460,000 a year and the program is index linked at 2% annually.
