Will hospital laundry changes save taxpayers money?

The province and Interior Health’s decision to privatize laundry service is short-sighted and may not save taxpayers in the long term.

That’s the strong reaction from Nelson City Councillor Michael Dailly to the news that IH will close the laundry at KLH at Nelson and other sites.

It will be centralized in Kelowna by the summer of 2017.

Nelson will lose 17 laundry jobs and Dailly says it’s particularly disappointing because the operation at KLH is efficient and works well.

IH says the move will save $35 million over 20 years.
