The latest employment data is out from Stats Canada and the jobless rate in the Kootenays remains higher than a year ago.
7.6% of the labour force across the whole Kootenays are out of work; that’s 5,400 people.
There are 71,500 people in the region’s labour force. That’s almost 2,000 fewer than a year ago when the unemployment rate was at 6%.
BC’s jobless rate is at 6.8% which is also higher than in February 2015 when it stood at 5.8%.
