The Nelson Police Department is welcoming the addition of sixteen more beds in our region to treat people struggling with substance use.
Sergeant Nate Holt says any extra resources can only help.
The NPD has long highlighted how they are swamped in responding to calls associated with people in distress because of mental health and/or substance related issues.
The NPD will liaise with local service providers regarding how best these extra spaces can be deployed.
Interior Health says a bidding process among qualified operators will determine where in the Kootenay-Boundary these beds will go.
