The joint enforcement of West Kootenay Traffic Services and Nelson’s Integrated Road Safety Unit led to several charges over the holiday weekend.
RCMP Sgt John Ferguson says fortunately there were no serious incidents or fatalities on what is traditionally a deadly weekend.
He says 19 drivers were charged with excessive speeding and their vehicles were impounded for 7 days.
There were three impaired drivers.
He says our region is mainly a safe place to drive but some people don’t get it .
The highest speed recorded buy police was 167 kmh in a 100 kmh zone.
One driver was arrested after 10 lbs of marijuana was found in the vehicle.
