School districts get admin costs break

The provincial government has announced they will not be calling for $25 million worth of school district administration savings this year.

Instead that money can now be put back into frontline services for students.

Education Minister Mike Bernier said each school district can use that money as they see fit. That could be to hire new teachers, for programs, or schools maintenance despite falling enrolment in some regions.

The announcement effectively means our three regional schools districts have a little more cash to spend this year.

That’s $252,000 for Kootenay Lake, $178,000 in Kootenay-Columbia and $77,000 in the Boundary.
