Rossland is moving to modernize regulations on short term residential rentals.
Many homeowners are technically operating illegally by offering nightly room rentals through online sites like Airbnb.
Bylaws stipulate they must have a licence as a guest house or conventional b&b.
But councillor Andrew Zwicker says the city is not being heavy handed.
The city will guide those folks on coming into compliance and a committee of local stakeholders will thrash out solutions.
Short term residential rentals are positive in that they bring in tourists but they don’t pay the taxes or fees that licensed accommodators are obliged to do.
