The central focus of the Zellstoff Celgar maintenance shut down in Castlegar got underway Tuesday.
The company stopped feeding chips into the digester Saturday but it can take up to 60 hours for the recovery boiler to be taken off line. That facility will be inspected and repaired.
Other jobs include work on the digester and lime kiln.
Also there will be some capital improvements including a new chip screening line and crane.
The shut down costs $10-million and sees about 500 extra people employed on site.
Start-up of the mill is set for June 10th.
