A provincial funding life-line has been thrown to Winlaw Elementary School.
A new rural education enhancement fund will help keep some rural schools open that are earmarked for possible closure.
The province says Winlaw Elementary would qualify for the money.
Education Minister Mike Bernier says it’s about keeping specific grades local and to preserve schools that are key to a community.
He says the funding would be ongoing, not a one-off.
Yahk Elementary near Creston also qualifies but there’s no mention of Jewett in the Lardeau Valley.
