The Slocan Valley’s school trustee says saving Winlaw elementary from closure was a no-brainer.
Sharon Nazaroff says new provincial funding to supportĀ rural schools made the decision easier.
But she would have been convinced on the strength of the community’s arguments alone.
Some trusteesĀ say W.E. Graham in Slocan is still underused so the debate may resurface in a few years but Nazaroff is more optimistic.
The board also spared Jewett last night but other schools in Nelson, Salmo, Yahk, and Creston may close.
We’ll hear more about them later this week.
