A bear has been destroyed because of public safety concerns in Nelson’s Uphill neighborhood.
Conservation Officer Jason Hawkes says they received a report Sunday afternoon that the animal actually walked through an open door into a house.
Hawkes says the bear was eventually found rummaging through the garbage at a property on View Street.
He adds they’ve been receiving multiple reports over the last few months of a bear accessing attractants such as garbage.
He explains the animal became habituated and therefore needed to be put down.
