A 28-year-old woman died Friday in a crash on Highway 3B, about one kilometer west of its junction with Highway 22 in Trail.
RCMP say at about 3:30 p.m., a southbound coupe lost control on compact snow and sand as it was legally passing another vehicle coming down the highway. It spun around and hit a northbound sedan.
The driver was taken to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital where she died.
The 40-year-old woman driving the sedan suffered minor injuries. She was treated in hospital and released.
West Kootenay Traffic Services, a collision reconstructionist, Trail RCMP and the BC Coroner Service are investigating the cause of the crash.
The highway was closed until about 11:30 p.m.
The name of the victim has not been released.
