Woman killed in fall in Valhalla Provincial Park

A 23-year-old Quebec woman died in a fall while hiking in Valhalla Provincial Park on Tuesday.

Slocan Lake RCMP say they received a call shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday that the woman fell down a cliff while hiking with two friends near Gimli Peak.

One witness scaled down the cliff to help her while the other witness hiked 2.5 hours to contact emergency services.

An air ambulance and two search and rescue helicopters were dispatched to recover the victim.

Barb McLintock of the BC Coroners Service says it was simply a tragic accident.

No name has been released.
