Columbia River Treaty hits half century milestone

The Columbia River Treaty between Canada and the US is half a century old.

Today marks 50 years since the agreement was made that resulted in three dams being built in BC including the Hugh Keenleyside outside Castlegar.

In March the province decided to see improvements to the treaty rather than terminate it.

The American Pacific Northwest sent a recommendation to the US State Department last year supporting modernization and more balanced benefits within a continued treaty.
