The City of Castlegar is working to get a rate set for their universal water metering program they now believe will start next year.
Staff is still trying to get some final households hooked up to meters but when the deadline for free installation passed last fall over 21 hundred devices were in place.
Chris Barlow with Public Works says they are now looking at rates in similar sized municipalities to determine an appropriate number for Castlegar.
Barlow adds the City also has to plan to balance the effect of conservation as they believe residents will use less once the meters are turned on.
