Hold off on Hall St corridor project:Severyn

Nelson mayoral candidate Pat Severyn says it makes more sense to get some of the lots fixed up along Hall St before embarking on the costly pedestrianization project.

Severyn says the proposed Hall St corridor to the waterfront is a big and expensive thing and the city should not be digging up streets and infrastructure before development of the lots has taken place.

He adds the proposed changes to traffic flow on the hill at Hall St and Vernon are the biggest issue. There have been concerns raised about losing parking spaces and how semi truck deliveries will work if the intersection becomes 4-way and no left turns are allowed coming up Hall.

Severyn says it makes sense to put everything on hold until the Nelson Commons residential and Co-Op store development is done so the city doesn’t have to confuse citizens by making traffic changes that may then need to be altered again.
