RDCK rescinds evacuation alerts across the region

The RDCK has reduced the amount of evacuation alerts and orders after a week of high temperatures, rain and increased snow melt threatened several homes across the district.

Emergency operations centre information officer Dan Elliot says, even though they have rescinded the threats for the region only one remains with an order in place.

“We have dropped the alerts and orders,” he says. “We currently only have one order and that is for Little South Slocan Road.”

He says the district is remaining hopeful by tomorrow there will be no more threats for the region and life can start returning to normal.

“Tomorrow we are hoping to remove all remaining evacuation orders, if all goes well.”

The weather brought increased temperatures, heavy rain which added to the increased snowmelt and impacted areas like Little South Slocan Road along with closing access to the Kootenay Pass and the Bombi.

Alerts were issued for Salmo and Duhamel Creek last week but were rescinded Saturday.
