A shot was fired in an armed robbery downtown Nelson Friday afternoon.
A man held up the Kootenay Currency Exchange on Vernon Street at about 1:15 p.m.
He threatened staff, got into an office, and took an unknown amount of cash before getting away on a bicycle.
Police say no one was physically hurt but employees are “understandably upset.”
Deputy police chief Paul Burkart says they believe the gun was discharged as a warning.
He describes what they know about the suspect.
The bicycle he fled on is described as a small green road bike with dropped handle bars and a small saddle bag under the seat. The handlebars had breaks and the top and bottom.
Police are urging “extreme caution” if you see the suspect and advise against approaching him.
In recent months an armed gunman has also targeted banks and businesses in Castlegar, Salmo, and Robson.
It’s not known if the latest incident is linked to the others but the suspect’s description is consistent with the other robberies.
