With temperatures on the rise, the RDKB is asking residents of Fruitvale and Rivervale to conserve water.
Both are now on Stage 1 of water restrictions, which means even numbered addresses can water from 4 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and odd numbered addresses on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. There is no sprinkler use on Mondays. This applies to lawns, lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower gardens. There are no restrictions on watering fruit and vegetable gardens.
“Outdoor water use accounts for over 30 per cent of the total water used in the Beaver Valley water service, so residents can make a big difference on the ground by booking free sprinkler assessments with me and tapping into our online lawn care tips,” said WaterSmart ambassador Abbe Teasdale.
In Rivervale, outdoor water accounts for 40 per cent of total water used.
Teasdale’s job is to reduce high seasonal outdoor water use and raise community awareness on how to prevent overwatering to achieve a local water reduction goal of 20 per cent.
Free sprinkler system assessments, for those on the RDKB’s water service, can identify defects and address inefficiencies across local lawns and gardens to meet these priorities.
Assessments include an inspection of your yard; analysis of root zone depth, thatch depth, soil type, and sun exposure; inspection of water distribution of your sprinklers; and checking for leaky/broken sprinkler heads and pipes.
Using this information, the ambassador can determine how much water your lawn actually needs and present you with a customized watering schedule to help to reduce your water use and adhere to water restrictions. This sprinkler system assessment can be completed for both manual and automatic sprinkler systems.
