The Canada Day celebration at Gyro Park in Trail will include fireworks.
The Southeast Fire Centre rescinded a category 2 open fire ban on June 16, allowing the committee to proceed with the show.
The fireworks will be launched from the Gyro Park boat dock at about 9:45 p.m.
“We’re very happy that the timing of the fire ban lift worked out for the event,” said Chris Vlanich, president of the Kiwanis Club of Trail and chair of the Canada Day Committee.
“Although we have many things planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gyro Park, Canada Day just isn’t the same without fireworks. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to the Trail Firefighters for their ongoing willingness to support our event. With setup, launching, and the beach cleanup, it’s a lot of work to put a fireworks show together.”
Activities at the park include free games, a barbecue, concession, and the sale of kettle corn.
The official ceremonies begin at noon with greetings, the singing of O Canada, and cake for everyone. Things will wrap up with live music from 12:30 to 2 p.m. by Jason Thomas.
Event-goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and sunscreen as the forecast is looking warm.
The incrEDIBLE Trail farmers’ market will also be going ahead from 10 until 2 on the Esplanade.
A fireworks display was also part of Silver City Days in Trail and Castlegar’s Sunfest. By contrast, the Town of Creston has cancelled its Canada Day fireworks.
