The Castlegar fire department continues to work on a human-caused wildfire within city limits.
The city says crews made progress Sunday on the Davidson Brook wildfire, which is just over two hectares.
The fire is now expected to stay contained within a fire-guarded area, although BC Wildfire still classifies it as out-of-control on its map.
Castlegar fire crews have been supported by the Robson and Ootischenia fire departments, as well as the BC Wildfire Service and Southeast Fire Centre.
In a news release, the city said it extends “a huge thank you to everyone supporting its efforts to contain the wildfire and keep the community safe” and to “the community and local businesses for donations of cold drinks and food.”
Firefighting efforts include the use of helicopters and water bombers.
The wildfire, west of the 1100 block of Columbia Avenue, was first reported on Saturday afternoon and initially stood at 0.3 hectares.
The city has seen a rash of intentionally-set fires lately. Charges have been laid in only one of those cases. A bench warrant is now out for the suspect.
