Trail and Greater District RCMP stopped a driver who then took off, only to stop again a short distance later.
Police responded to a report of an alleged erratic drier along Highway 3B on Friday, Jan. 5 shortly before 5:30 p.m.
RCMP officials said the officers attempted to pull over the 30-year-old Trail woman behind the wheel, but she took a long time to slow down and come to a stop.
Once pulled over, police then approached the vehicle, only for the woman to suddenly drive away.
Officers then pulled her over for a second time shortly after. The driver lightly bumped her vehicle into one of the police cars in front of her in the process.
This time, she stayed put.
Police officials said the woman could not produce a valid BC driver’s license but had a photo of a foreign license.
“The officers made observations that lead them to believe the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol,” said Trail RCMP officials. “A demand was read to the woman, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a pass; however, alcohol was still detected.”
The woman was issued fines for failing to produce a valid driver’s licence and failing to stop for police.
“The officers in this matter acted quickly and professionally. Remember that even a small amount of alcohol can impair your judgement and ability to drive,” said Sgt. Steve Wicentowich “I hope this driver learns from her real-life ‘bumper car’ experience.”
