Trail’s Storm the Stairs Success

Trail’s Storm the Stairs event in May has raised over $10,000 for the local community.

This year 33 participants of all ages and fitness levels laced up and climbed 1618 stairs together in support of United Way BC programs that help people in need throughout the Trail, Castlegar, and West Kootenay Boundary area.

“The money goes to support child and youth mental health initiatives, schools out programs in the West Kootenay area, better at home, seniors’ activities, and food security.” Said Naomi McKimmie, Regional Community Impact & Investment Coordinator, Southern Interior, United Way British Columbia.

Storm the stairs is a community initiative that started in 2015 and gives participants the option to choose one of three routes along the Westside of Trail- 2.4km, 4km or 7.5km, as they enjoy spectacular views of Trail and the Columbia River.

“We would like to thank sponsors, our volunteers that came out and our participants.” said Naomi.

“They just rocked it this year, they had such a good time, and we would welcome them all back in future years.”
