One person has been killed and another has been treated for injuries following the collision of a pick-up truck and transport truck on Highway 22, between Castlegar and Trail on Friday.
Castlegar RCMP were notified of a collision at 5:55am along Highway 22 in the Blueberry area between Castlegar and Trail, where both vehicles were found engulfed in flames.
Emergency services attended and identified that each vehicle had only one occupant.
The 60-year-old driver of the transport truck from the Trail area was treated for their injuries and transported to hospital whereas the 47-year-old driver of pickup truck from Castlegar, unfortunately had succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the collision.
The highway remained closed for a length of time while police investigated the collision and the vehicles were removed.
The investigation has identified the pickup was travelling north and unexpectedly crossed the center line of the roadway causing a head on collision with the transport truck.
Castlegar RCMP are continuing their investigation and ask anyone with information to contact RCMP at (250) 365-7721.
