Trail RV Park closed for the summer

Not the news campers want to hear, but the City of Trail RV Park will not be open this summer.

Usually, the RV Park is open from the beginning of May until the end of September, however, Claire Samulak, the City’s Communication Coordinator, explained that staffing issues and the unpredictability of imminent construction forced the city to keep the park closed this summer as the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary prepares for significant upgrades to its wastewater plant.

Samulak said the RDKB will be starting the project this summer, thus forcing the park closure to provide access for the upgrades.

“The project has been in the pipeline for some time, and so we’ve been somewhat aware, but we didn’t have hard timelines on anything. Then in the late spring, we got news that they’re [the RDKB] really trying to push forward this year. It was a bit of a short timeline for us to cancel any reservations at our RV park and such.”

She added that the city understands there are limited options in the area for camping but directs people to Beaver Creek Provincial Park and Champion Lake this summer instead.

“A lot of people have really enjoyed using the park, and we recognize that and understand there are not a ton of options. However, there are some other great options for camping just down the road, and we really hope to see everybody out.

We invite people to check out our website for local campground information. We appreciate the patience and understanding about the closure of the Trail RV Park this summer.”

The RDKB said it is not in a position yet to provide details on the timeline of the upgrades.
