Minimum wage in British Columbia needs to be better.
So says Southern Interior New Democrat MP Alex Atamanenko in response to a campaign by the BC Federation of Labour calling for a $15 minimum.
Atamanenko adds low income leads to social issues and BC has the worst child poverty rate in the country.
The Province’s current minimum wage is $10.25 an hour which ranks 8th among Canadian provinces and territories.
Ontario has the highest minimum wage at $11 an hour.
The BC Federation of Labour says 120,000 workers in the province are paid only the minimum wage.
