Castlegar RCMP investigate a hit-and-run collision

Castlegar RCMP are looking for the driver involved in a hit and run collision on Thursday. July 18.

Just after 2pm the Castlegar RCMP responded to a collision involving a blue SUV and a black Harley Davidson motorcycle in the northbound lanes of Columbia Rd, near the Kootenay Crossing Mall in the 1900 address block of Columbia Rd.

Police attended the scene and determined that the blue SUV had turned north from a nearby parking lot and the motorcycle was unable to avoid it.

The motorcycle collided with the blue SUV leaving the motorcyclist with non-life-threatening injuries and the blue SUV with damage to its rear passenger side bumper and fender area, said Cst. Ross of the Castlegar RCMP.

Shortly after the collision the driver of the suspect blue SUV left the scene without talking to the motorcyclist or anyone else.

The suspected driver of the blue SUV is described as an older Caucasian male, between the age of 50 and 80 years old, approximately 5’9 to 6 feet tall, balding with white hair at the sides, and at the time of the collision was wearing a blue short sleeve shirt, and either cargo or khaki shorts or khaki pants.

The blue SUV is described as likely being a 2013 to 2020 model and may possibly be an import.

“The situation could have been much worse had the motorcyclist not been wearing a helmet. The Castlegar RCMP wants to thank the person who called 911 and stayed on scene until the RCMP arrived.” said Cst. Scott Ross.

Castlegar RCMP are looking to identify the driver and the suspect blue SUV.
