NDP Leader Ends Agreement with the Trudeau Government

Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has ended the Supply and Confidence Agreement signed with the Liberal government in 2022.

The agreement was helping keep Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals in power.

“The fact is, the Liberals are too weak, too selfish and too beholden to corporate interests to fight for people,” Singh said in a video address to Canadians Wednesday.

“They cannot stop the Conservatives. But we can.”

The end of the Supply and Confidence Agreement does not automatically send voters to the polls as a majority of MPs must vote against the government on confidence.

The 24 NDP members in Parliament could continue to support the 154-member minority Liberal government on a vote-by-vote basis.

Singh says the NDP is ready for an election, and voting non-confidence will be on the table with every confidence measure.

The deal between the two parties was set to expire in June 2025.
