BC Highway Patrol Nelson seeking witnesses of dangerous driver on Highway 3A

The BC Highway Patrol in Nelson is seeking witnesses and dashcam footage related to a dangerously erratic driver on Highway 3A this weekend.

Between 9 and 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, police received several urgent reports about a black Honda Ridgeline with Alberta plates. The vehicle was travelling between Trail, Castlegar, and Nelson at nearly 200 km/h, swerving into oncoming traffic and passing other vehicles unsafely.

Several collisions were reported due to this driver, including one where he rear-ended an off-duty police officer driving his personal vehicle on Highway 3A near Taghum.

Shortly after, the driver crashed his vehicle on the highway near Nelson, directly in front of two BC Highway Patrol members who were about to pull him over.

A 47-year-old man from Alberta was arrested at the scene.

A criminal dangerous driving investigation is now underway. The BC Highway Patrol in Nelson would like to speak to any witnesses who may have been run off the road, have dashcam footage, or saw this event.

Those with dashcam footage or any other information can contact BC Highway Patrol Nelson at (250) 354-5180.
