Trail Smoke Eaters have tasted their two first win and felt their first loss in their pre-season starter, after beating Cranbrook Bucks earlier last week.
On Friday night, the Smokies hosted the Penticton Vees in their pre-season opener.
Smokies’ Callas Pierce found the net within the first minute, followed by Jack Zilotto to put the home team in front by two.
Vees’ Eli McKamey sunk one for the visitors, as they trailed by one heading into the second period.
The Smokies came out firing, adding three more points to the scoreboard through Attila Lippai, Jason Stefanek and Cade De St. Hubert.
The Vee’s managed to claw back one with Max Hiese finding the net, but not enough to close the gap.
The final period saw Smokies in front 5 to 2, as they went net for net with the Vees.
Penticton’s Simon Meier scored, Trail’s Ridge Dawson followed, Vee’s Caton Ryan responded and finally Trail’s Jason Stefanek finished off the points.
In the end, Trail Some Eater took the win 7 to 4.
Meanwhile, back the ice on Sunday saw the Trail suffer their first loss to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
The Smokies managed to hold off the home team from scoring until the dying minutes of the first period, where Silverbacks’ Aaron Van Wie scored the first goal of the games.
The Silverback blew out their 1-nil lead in the second period as Liam Beamish and Aaron Van Wie found the net, leaving the Smokies trailing 3-nil heading into the final period.
Trail managed to keep the home team scoreless in the third period, while finding the net through Dylan Lariviere and Callas Pierce, but not enough for the win.
The Silverbacks walked away on top 3 to 2.
