Pedestrian taken to hospital following Castlegar collision

Castlegar RCMP are investigating a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian near the Castlegar Canadian Tire on Sunday.

Castlegar RCMP report they were alerted to a collision around 7:25 p.m. that involved a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 20th Street.

Police say that when they arrived on scene, a vehicle was stopped in a traffic lane and a 31-year-old female was laying on the roadway complaining of injuries.

Police determined the vehicle had been travelling north on Columbia Avenue., when, at the traffic and pedestrian-controlled intersection, while the vehicle was lawfully making a left-hand turn on a green light, the vehicle entered the pedestrian cross walk location of the intersection, striking the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene for her injuries and then transported to hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery.

The police investigation is ongoing and includes “any negligence of the driver and/or the pedestrian.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP at (250)365-7721.
