Wendy’s Restaurant is coming to Castlegar with City Council approving the development during the September 23 council meeting
Council approved several variance requests for the development located at 1680 Columbia Avenue, including reductions in setback requirements for structures and increased allowances for signage.
Councillors previously had concerns about how the development would impact traffic on Columbia Ave. Staff then conducted a traffic assessment, which indicated that the development would maintain acceptable levels of service even during peak hours.
The company was also directed to redesign the layout of the drive-through to accommodate 11 vehicles without causing traffic congestion, ensuring it doesn’t interfere with the flow of traffic on Columbia Ave and 17th Street.
Additionally, enhancements to pedestrian and cyclist access were included in the development plan to promote alternative modes of transportation.
The changes alleviated council’s concerns, with all seven council members voting in favour of the variance and development requests.
