City of Castlegar water and sewage rates going up in 2025

Castlegar City Council has given initial approval to proposed water and utility rate increases for 2025, passing the first three readings of the proposed increases during the November 18 City Council meeting.

The City uses the Municipal Price Index to measure and forecast municipal inflation to support decision-making on utility rate increases.

For water, City staff recommended a 5.6 per cent increase for 2025. For a single-family dwelling, the increase would amount to approximately $23.51 more annually than in 2024.

Sewage rates will see a larger jump, with staff recommending a 10.6 per cent increase. For a single-family dwelling, this would result in an additional $36.81 annually.

A civic document states that Council is scheduled to adopt the rates on December 2. Residents will be informed in the January Quarterly Newsletter, and the new rates will be reflected on the City’s website.
