BC gamblers set Super Bowl wagering record for second straight year

Money was no object for BC gamblers when wagering on Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

Matt Lee with the BC Lottery Corporation told Vista Radio the province saw another record amount wagered on the big game.

“Last year, we mentioned that more than $2.1 million dollars had been wagered on the big game – this year we saw a little bit more than that, an improvement over last year with almost 2.5 million wagered this year and we are very excited to see those results.”

In 2023, $1.8 million dollars was wagered on the Super Bowl.

ee added the familiar matchup likely spurred more interest.

“There is a lot more intrigue or mystique this year when you have the Kansas City Chiefs attempting to make history, trying to become the first team to win three straight Superbowls and the Philadelphia Eagles to their credit, in a rematch to a team that defeated them a couple years earlier added a little intrigue.”

Lee stated some of the most popular bets included what color of Gatorade would be dumped on the winning head coach to the coin toss as well as which coach would be the first to cry.

The Super Bowl is the second-most popular event on the betting menu in BC next to the American Presidential Election.
