Grand Forks Border Bruins have taken an early series 2-0 lead over the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
In the first game, the Border Bruins scored three unanswered goals, getting the winner from Jace Koole to take the opening game against the Nitehawks.
Jasper Tait wasn’t busy in the Border Bruins net, as his side secured three goals on nine shots in the first period. He settled and saved all nine shots faced in the second and third period combined to finish with 15 saves.
Koole led with three points, while Brandon Gray had two goals.
Hunter Hansen led the Nitehawks with two points and Connor Stojan stopped 20 of 24 shots.
The Border Bruins went 1-for-4 on the power-play, while the Nitehawks were 0-for-4 and surrendered a short-handed goal.
In the end, the home side locked it away in a nailbiter 4-3 finish.
Game two threw a similar outcome, with the Border Bruins clipping the Nitehawks by 1 goal.
The Border Bruins struck four times on the power-play, including the winner by Tyler Burke for their second win in the serires.
Thomas Clarke led the Border Bruins with two goals and Jasper Tait had a 21-save performance in goal.
Brady Magarrell and Boris Hristov each had three points for the Nitehawks.
Connor Stojan stopped 19 of 25 shots in 35:11 of action then was relieved for Landan Uzeloc, who stopped seven of nine shots.
The Nitehawks went 2-for-8 on the power-play, but couldn’t claw back the win, going down 8-7 on the final buzzer.
The teams will meet again for game 3 tonight at 7pm in Beaver Valley.
