Columbia Avenue building damaged after being struck by vehicle

A 62-year-old man has avoided injury after his vehicle drove off the road on Tuesday, March 18, around 10:30am, striking a building in the 800 block of Columbia Avenue in Castlegar.

Emergency services attended the scene, locating a black Jeep that appeared to have drove off the road, through the property’s fence, and into the building.

Fortunately, the office space inside the building was unoccupied and no one was injured.

Castlegar RCMP say the lone driver did not display signs of intoxication, while witness have confirmed that prior to the collision the Jeep had been travelling North on Columbia Avenue when it unexpectedly left the roadway striking the property.

The driver, who appeared uninjured as a result of the collision, was transported to hospital for further medical care.

RCMP are continuing their investigation which includes the driver potentially suffering a medical episode prior to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

Anyone with information are asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP (250)365-7721.
