Cam Whitehead has stepped into the role of executive director for the Lower Columbia Community Development Team Society (LCCDTS), which runs the Metal Tech Alley initiative.
“Most people know me as the former executive director of the Kootenay Association for Science and Technology, or KAST” he says. “There, I led projects that increased investment into the region including transitioning the MIDAS Fab Lab into the Selkirk Technology Access Centre (STAC).”
“Cam has a strong track record of delivering major projects and driving significant investment into the region. With the board setting clear directives, we’re confident in Cam’s ability to lead the operations of LCCDTS and bring those goals to life,” says Brent Anhel, chair of the LCCDTS board of directors.
“I have a passion for community development here in the Kootenays,” says Cam, “I used to work in the government, so I know how to bring money to rural areas. Interior communities are often underserved by government programs even though we generate so much tax revenue in the regions. I want to see more money come back here to invest in our community.”
“I’m looking forward to re-engaging with people in the community and continuing our strong partnership with local governments and our partners,” he adds.
The LCCDTS champions projects in the community, including Metal Tech Alley, the Battery Recycling Hub, affordable housing projects, the community health center, and the IncrEDIBLE Farmers Markets. It supports and facilitates investments into the region for economic development, social wellness, and environmental sustainability.
