Scammers trying new tricks in Trail

A fake doctor pushing prescription pills has pocketed $660, as TRAIL RCMP uncover another method for scammer to cash in on unrecoverable e-transferred money.

“You may not want to consume prescription medications obtained over social media, despite a doctor shortage. Please visit your doctor or a open clinic to get treatment,” sayid Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

Meanwhile, another victim lost $300 to an unnamed friend asking for a gift card.

But a house hunter managed to avoid falling into the scamming trap, by double checking with a realtor before e-transferring rent and damage deposit demands of over $3000.

“Please take the time to do your due diligence as this person did. It may save you a lot of money by spending a little time verifying the details,” said Sgt. Wicentowich.
