Trail announced new senior management

The City of Trail has a new senior manager.

Jared Minor is the General Manager of Municipal Services, a new position created last year as part of staff restructuring at City Hall.

City officials say Minor comes with 15 years of leadership, engineering and project management expertise.

Minor’s most recent position was with Teck as the Project Manager for Water Sustainability and Environmental Remediation at Elk Valley Resources.

He says the area’s recreational attractiveness was one reason for the decision to move from Fernie to Trail.

Another was the diversity of the position.

“Having the oversight of such a diverse group of services within the city, it gave me the impression that I would have the ability to impact a significant part, play a significant role in providing services to the community, which was may goal,” said Miner.

Miner’s responsibilities will include overseeing operations at the Aquatic and Leisure Centre, the Memorial Centre, as well as the Public Works, Engineering and Design Departments.

He sees understanding and absorbing those responsibilities as his first challenge.

“Being so green right now not to just the city itself, but also to the different groups, it will be hard to judge where I can have impact,” Minor said.

“With time and as we jell as a team, it will be easier to figure out how, within the parks and recreation group for example, where we can improve our quality and efficiency of our services,” he added.

Minor stated he has always seen himself as a service provider.

“Within industry that has a clear and concise owner that you’re reporting to and you’re typically measured by dollars,” said the new city staffer.

“I’m at the point of my life and my career where I wanted to see a different level of impact and that’s why I chose local government,” Miner added, hoping a different type of owner will benefit from his experience and expertise.

“I want my impact, my owner that I’m providing service to, to be my community, my neighbours, my friends.”
